Burn this when you've finished 'Cos I'll never forget what it says But I hope you do I hope you do I know that you just found this Where you said you would look but forgot So don't try to call 'Cos I won't be home You know I won't forget you But it took you too long to find out What you had to do And it's just like you So burn this when you've finished 'Cos I'll never forget what it says But I hope you do And I want you to

Too sweet, too pure for this world To the point, I'm sure, in this world Over time you'll find, overdone, left behind, Simulated, uninviting, danger here A face like the moon, ever new A smile like the hearth, of sorrow and mirth A soul like the earth, of death and rebirth Underground so fair, beyond compare New things of old - blue notes turn gold A soul like the earth, of rebirth A heart like the sun, all for one A smile like the hearth, of sorrow and mirth Too sweet, too pure for this world To the point, I'm sure, in this world

They know their own way out They know their own way out But if you tie them up inside, you'll find them in your mind They know their own way out They don't remember why they're here But never forget you were Your voice, your hair, your step, your care, The short time you're ever there They know their own way out They know their own way out But if you tie them up inside, you'll find them in your mind They know their own way out They look happy for you, if you want them to, And hide the pain they live Crying, sighing, idle for hours, Only to forgive They know their own way out They know their own way out But if you tie them up inside, you'll find them in your mind They know their own way out

Yes, Dear 02:55
I am your fear, your conquest dear I hold the key to your heart I am your fear, your conquest dear I hold the key to your heart I see right through your skin so bare Through muscle, bone, and soul You've come to settle an old score Tall tales you were told By girls and boys in the schoolyard By boyscouts 'round their totem poles You repeated word for word the lyrics of a song you heard They script each play you make, each breath you take The rattle in your throat - you gulp to hide a gloat A gloat to hide the pain Of chasing after manly fame That you would own on others' lips Whispering your storied name Your hands glide down my hips The cheering crowd in your head The jeering crowd in mine I am your fear - when you are dead I am the next in line

Silkworms 03:00
Ideas, silkworms, tired of spinning yarns That in their dying days conspire to build a structure firm And to this noble purpose, insouciance dedicates The lives of generations in an ever-widening circle It bends but never breaks, mend it to stop a leak, Meet it and befriend it, the firmness fake, the proof too late

Obscured by fog and doubt Glowing pale in the day The academy calls out Join the Sisters of Theory The Sisters of Theory know That people are just beasts And beasts are just like ants And ants are just machines Deus ex machina Say the Sisters of Theory Machina ex deo Ken Kesey and Leary Belief in God Is just on and off Right, left, wrong, right The lawyer won't decide And faith is delusion The Sisters of Theory say Others live illusions Of naïveté The Sisters of Theory know The difference is they know And no, you do not And one of them you're not So you do as they say And they say what you do In their academic way That's all they know is true That's all we ever knew That's all they'll ever do

Never to see, nor be seen Never to be but a dream For infinity Between the Devil and the deep blue sea She chose the sea There the fire may expire eventually In the depths of endless night Nothing to fear but the light Never to see, nor be seen Never to be but a dream For eternity

about

Motel Ben songs about taking a further step on that path between doubting whether you exist as a single self and fearing whether you'll continue to exist. Questioning sex, love, gender, the Great Chain of Being, the modernist fallacy of endless novelty and expansion, and the privileging of oneness and permanence and stasis and hierarchy and domination and light.

Produced at Up and Up Studio, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada by sound engineer Ted Adler
